Med/Surg RN Job Details

• Assignment Type: Locum tenens (Travel Nursing Contract)
  
• Location: Kalamazoo, MI 49007
  
• Unit: 20-6250 Med Surg - NVU (Neurological/Medical Surgical Unit)
  
• Shift: Nights, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00 - 07:30)
  
• Weekly Hours: 36
  
• Assignment Duration: 13 weeks (Start: 10/20/2025 – End: 1/19/2026)
  
• Patient Population: Adults and pediatrics (age 5+ for neuro monitoring)
  
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4 or 1:5
  
• Healthcare Technology: EPIC (charting), Pyxis (medication management)
  
• Flu Vaccine: Required (medical exemptions accepted)
  
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $1840 - $1890
  

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active and valid Michigan RN license (required for Michigan nursing jobs)
  
• Minimum 1 year of recent Med/Surg RN experience (1-2 years preferred)
  
• BLS (AHA) certification required
  
• NIHSS certification required (or willingness to obtain prior to start)
  
• Ability to work every other weekend
  
• Willingness to float to other Med/Surg units, ICU, and ED waiting rooms as needed
  
• Professional references required
  
• Proof of flu vaccination or exemption (to be submitted within 48 hours of contract signing)
  

Med/Surg RN Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care to patients with neurological disorders (stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord disorders) and post-operative neuro/ortho-surgical patients
  
• Care for a diverse patient population, including step-down/telemetry and bariatric patients
  
• Monitor and manage patients in the Neuro Monitoring Unit, including pediatric seizure patients (age 5+)
  
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams: physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, and rapid response teams
  
• Utilize EPIC for electronic health record charting and Pyxis for medication administration
  
• Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures
  
• Participate in orientation modules and ongoing annual training for clinical staff
  
• Float to other medical-surgical units as required to support hospital staffing needs
