Labor & Delivery RN Job Details

• Location: Decatur, Illinois (Zip: 62526)
  
• Facility: Acute Care Hospital – Family Birth Center (18-bed unit)
  
• Position Type: Locum Tenens / Travel Nursing Contract
  
• Shift: Night shifts, 4x12 or 3x12 hours (18:00 – 06:30)
  
• Weekly Hours: 36
  
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks (Start: 10/13/2025 – End: 1/12/2026)
  
• Estimated Weekly Salary Range: $2090-$2140
  
• Scrub Color: Provided
  
• Charting System: Cerner EMR
  
• Parking: Free permit parking available
  

Labor & Delivery RN Qualifications

• Current and active Illinois RN license (or in process with ETA)
  
• Minimum 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery nursing experience
  
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NRP, Fetal Monitoring (AHA or Red Cross only)
  
• Experience in Antepartum, High Risk Antepartum, Level I Nursery, LDRP, Mother/Baby, and Labor & Delivery units
  
• Proficiency with Cerner electronic charting preferred
  
• Community hospital experience preferred
  
• Ability to float to Pediatrics unit as needed
  
• First-time travel nurses welcome to apply
  

Labor & Delivery RN Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to laboring and postpartum patients, including high-risk deliveries
  
• Assist with sterile speculum exams, triage obstetric patients, and perform non-stress and oxytocin challenge tests
  
• Monitor fetal heart rates (external/internal), recognize and respond to abnormal patterns
  
• Administer medications (antihypertensives, magnesium sulfate, pitocin, prostaglandins)
  
• Start and maintain IVs, administer blood products, and manage infusion pumps
  
• Circulate for C-sections, assist with vaginal deliveries, and recover post-surgical patients
  
• Perform newborn assessments, APGAR scoring, cord care, and provide discharge teaching to parents
  
• Manage pain (including epidural anesthesia) and provide wound/incision care
  
• Float to Pediatrics unit as needed to support hospital operations
  
• Maintain strict adherence to isolation precautions and PPE protocols
