Job Description – Medical Assistant Instructor

Position Summary

The Medical Assistant Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality instruction, guidance, and mentorship to students enrolled in the Medical Assistant program. This role ensures students gain the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies required to succeed in both classroom and clinical environments. The Instructor plays a key role in preparing future healthcare professionals by combining academic theory with hands-on training. As the Medical Assistant Instructor, your role is essential to the success and smooth operation of the MA program at the College for Technical Education. In addition to your instructional duties, your flexibility and teamwork help maintain a supportive, student-focused environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and effective instruction in medical assisting theory, laboratory skills, and clinical procedures.
  • Develop, review, and update lesson plans, course materials, and instructional strategies to meet program objectives and accreditation standards.
  • Provide demonstrations and supervise students in learning essential skills, including injections, laboratory procedures and patient care techniques. This will lead students toward achieving certifications in the following areas: Phlebotomy Technician (CPT), Billing & Coding (CBCS), Electronic Health Records (CEHRS), Medical Administrative Asst (CMAA/RMA), Patient Care Technician (CPCT/A).
  • Evaluate student performance through assignments, exams, skills assessments, and clinical competencies.
  • Offer academic support, tutoring, and career guidance to students to promote success and retention.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, accreditation requirements, and industry regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress.
  • Stay current with trends and advancements in the healthcare and medical assisting field.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and professionalism.
  • Collaborate with program directors, faculty, and clinical sites to coordinate externships and ensure smooth student transitions to the workplace.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Diploma, certificate, or associate degree in Medical Assisting or Associate in Nursing (RN).
    • Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or RN (preferred) required.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting.
    • Prior teaching or training experience preferred but not required.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of medical assisting practices, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and clinical procedures.
    • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to motivate, mentor, and engage students of diverse backgrounds.
    • Proficiency with computers, electronic health records (EHR), and instructional technology.

Work Environment

  • Classroom, laboratory, and clinical training settings.
  • Flexible scheduling may include daytime, evening, or weekend classes.
